Elementary music at the kindergarten level introduces our youngest learners to various aspects of music and how these relate to their lives. Specifically, children learn music concepts through skills such as singing, playing instruments, listening, moving and responding to music. Through community activities such as singing games, play parties, concert performances, and small instrument ensembles children will discover the joy and self-expressive opportunities unique to the creation of music. By observing rules, sharing responsibilities, and caring for musical instruments children will take part in establishing a sense of community in the music room. Learning at this level also prepares for music education at the next level and serves as a vital link to learning across other curriculum areas.
